Well, nope if you were to go by this weekend weather! It has been surprising cool for this time of the year, just in time for Graduation weekend (UNC, Duke & NC State all had graduation!)
We were in Raleigh yesterday (Sat) for the Capital City 10K, which doubled up as the NC USATF 10K road championship, which Marc ran in (came in 5th in 31:42). Considering that Marc will be considered a "master" in 2 years (for track events), this probably isn't too shabby. But it does appear that age is catching up with him!
Since we were in Raleigh, and Marc wasn't too stinky from his race+cooldown run (given the nice weather), we decided to check out the new wing of the NC Museum of Natural Sciences, the Nature Research Center, part of which has a huge globe that is about 5 stories high. It's called "The Daily Planet" and it's curvature on the inside allows the perfect space & shape for projecting images with IMAX-type quality. It was quite an amazing place, with loads of interactive and hands-on activities! When we were on the street, I took a picture of Central America, since we will be in Costa Rica later this summer.... (can you spot Costa Rica?)
On our walk in downtown before lunch, we and stumbled across The Handmade Market, and ended up spending Marc's prize money on a few pieces of wall and wear-able art (one for our kitchen that says: EITHER you LOVE BACON ... or you are wrong]. It was pretty cool and I got some fun craft ideas, although it's not clear to me when I'd find the time or energy to actually see any of it through.
At lunch, we went to a relatively new Korean-French fusion spot in Cary that was reviewed a while ago. Komokomo's decor was simple and welcoming, and it food qas quite excellent. The flavors were clean and refreshing, perfect for this time of the year. We are considering heading back for dinner sometime soon to try their bouillabaise and chicken dumplings (which looked really yummy).
Our garden is coming along well, with the peas and green beans all beginning to flower and made little pods. The radishes have been fun to watch grow and eat as well (they are a little spicy!)
And in case you are thinking that is has been all fun and games over here, it has not been so. On Friday, Sophie ran out of the house when Marc went to get the newspaper, and we haven't seen her since. Food we have been leaving out overnight has been disappearing though, but we are unsure if it is her or the other neighborhood cats who have been enjoying the treats. We picked up a Havahart trap this afternoon, so hopefully we will be able to find out by morning. Meanwhile, we are bracing ourselves for potentially never seeing Sophie again.... if so at some point we will likely adopt another cat as Coco seems sad without a companion. Otherwise, lots of crazy grant-writing going on!
Lastly, we do not want to forget to wish our mothers a HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

We also have some rogue squash growing, which is always welcomed! yay compost! And our tomatoes are also getting taller and stronger with some buds and a few fruits. Together with our CSA, we will have vegetables coming out our of ears soon enough. Hmmm... also just found a few nice recipe ideas for pea tendrils --- will have to try those.
Lastly, we do not want to forget to wish our mothers a HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!
