Memorial Day Weekend!
Hard to believe it is already the end of May. After a whirlwind end to the semester, things have not really let up for us in the work department. Marc has had research projects to catch up on and to plan (as you can see by the other announcements on this blog), and Shuwen has several projects to juggle and many manuscripts to revise for journal re-submissions.
Our travels pick up again this coming week. Shuwen goes Tuesday night to Washington DC for two days of meetings, and Marc will drive through on the way to Philly on Thursday. We will stay there three nights, joining in Marc's ten-year Swarthmore reunion on Saturday and spending time with the Wares. Then we continue to New York City for a wedding (Carrie Teicher's, who Marc knew in Bamako) on Sunday. We are looking forward to reconnecting with some of the Peace Corps crowd there
After that, we are back in Chapel Hill until Marc leaves for China June 16. Shuwen will have meetings shortly thereafter, and we will reconnect in Cambodia, for a visit to Marc's research site and a brief vacation.
It will be a busy June.
Our garden has been doing well lately, as the weather heats up (and boy did it do that this past week). We have had plenty of lettuce and now are getting various types of beans. Our tomato plants are producing fruit. We also have herbs and other plants - squash, eggplant, okra, peppers - growing which will hopefully produce for us soon.
This morning we had good runs at Umstead Park in Raleigh, which is a wonderful place to challenge the hills in the peaceful woods. We hope everyone is enjoying the start of summer!
